Honest opinion? Spend that money on something else.

The problem with anything in print is that it is immediately out-of-date, so these tomes are expensive for what they are, and very rapidly become no more use to you than a doorstop. Practically everything that will be covered therein can be found online.

What I did a few years ago (because I, too, like books), was wean myself off of printed manuals. Instead I now have a OneNote notebook and I collate there all the amazing hints and tips I've found over the years (many of them from here). I also spend some of my free time surfing the web for ideas about what can be done with Excel, and when I find interesting nuggets, I pursue them and collate the results in my OneNote notebook. My notebook synchronises on all of my devices, as it's on OneDrive, so I can access it wherever I am, on a PC, laptop or handheld device. And, best of all, it's a bespoke 'manual'.

    Just my two-penneth ...

    Re: Training manual

John Walkenbach has produced updated versions of the Excel Bible for every version of Excel since way back. In reality, not that much changes from book to book although, clearly, much has changed in, say, 10 to 15 years.

They are good, well written books with lots of hints, tips, techniques and advice.

That said, it's a lot to read and assimilate. I have dozens of books on Excel and VBA ... currently in a box in the garage, not looked at in a long time.

A lot of it is basic stuff that you'll skim through, perhaps missing the odd gem as you go. Looks to me that the main change is Part V: Understanding Power Pivot and Power Query 781. You might be better off looking for something that focuses on those tools.

In practical terms, you can't learn all there is to know about Excel and VBA quickly, if ever. You’re probably better off focusing on specific tasks, problems and solutions. And using Google (other search engines are available) you can find lots of detailed on-line tutorials. There are lots of free training sites and You Tube videos for everything you could ever want to know.

    Save your money.

I agree, and in another thread I suggested both Ken Puls and Miguel Escobar's "M is for Data Monkey" and Gil Raviv's "Collect, Combine, and Transform Data Using Power Query in Excel and Power BI (Business Skills)".

    Re: Training manual

Most of the answers in fora illustrate that most of the people didn't read any thorough/encompassing book on the principles of a program (e.g. Excel) or language (e.g. VBA). The answers reflect the randomly cherry picking in the Internet without understanding what they are suggesting.
I heartily recommend this book as a sound base to build your future knowledge upon, unless you prefer to write clumsy coding.
