I have been doing a fair bit of work with Azure machine learning, cloud platforms and integrating cross platform application and when researching I came across this Youtube video.
Well, my thoughts have always been that things like Excel and Power Point will one day be a thing of the past, reason being that not much really has happened to them over the years especially in the developer area of Office tools. Boy, was I wrong (Yes I am eating my hat right now), with all the cloud platforms utilizing Office API's the horizon has expanded infinitely. You can now integrate Excel into WPF apps you want and manipulate data in C# or you can do Scott Hanselman did in the video and use JavaScript to access Excel and create an instance that way.
Anyway, the reason for the post today was to say "I was wrong" , Excel dose not look like it will be going anywhere any time soon. Sigh, it is an issue of "The more I learn, the more I realize how little I did actually know about programming". Quite humbling actually.
Still, I will be interesting in what they will do with VBA, as that has essentially stayed the same for the last 10 years. Maybe that will go the way of WinForms???
Cheers and have a nice day all.
P.S. The video was not the reason I realized the power Office365 now has, but it was a great example of showing what we can now do with it and prompted my apology to those members who I may have offended in that thread a while back.
