I know, I know, I'm posting this on an Excel forum. However, this is a large group of talented folk, so I'm hoping there might be a few out there who can offer some advice.

I'm in the unenviable position of putting together a SharePoint solution for our department. Age-old story of a share drive that is a hot mess, and desperately needing something better. I've been working with SharePoint for a long time, but the obstacle I'm running into right now is designing the metadata structure. I think I'm just too close to the project to see beyond what I consider showstoppers.

What I'm hoping someone here can offer up is a place to seek advice on metadata / taxonomy design, or resources that provide real world examples. I've searched quite a bit, but I haven't really found a place geared toward that. I frequent a number of SharePoint blogs, but most stuff out there is theoretical rather than practical. I'm banging my head against this, and I just can't seem to make any progress.

Feel free to tell me no if this isn't the appropriate place, I'll understand (and then go cry in a corner )
