    Looking for guidance please

To Ali or whom ever answers

I am part way into a project for our local horse endurance riders club,

i am NOT ready to post the whole thread up yet, but I would like to do is
put up my starting piece to see if my writings are making logic and not confusing,
and once you have read DELETE it, to allow me to complete the whole thing.

    Pete
One I have learnt over the last few months, " You are NEVER too old to learn ".
Sometimes I forget to say " Thank You " for your assistance, so here I say " A BIG Thank You. "

    Re: Looking for guidance please

Happy to help, HOWEVER the thread will NOT be deleted when you are done with it (although it can be closed).

I have explained this to you before, I think, but here goes again: all threads are public and do not belong to the OP. They form part of a growing database that is a resource for all. Anybody's thread may prove useful to someone else in the future.

To summarise: deleting threads is against the entire ethos of the forums, and will not be done except in extremis, e.g. where a thread is SPAM or highly offensive.

As always, if you want to do this, you MUST use a meaningful thread title.

As an aside, you seem to be creating spreadsheets for every club in your area: have you gone into business???

    Re: Looking for guidance please

    Good morning Ali
NO WAY, the other projects are to help me with my Amateur Radio activities.

Below is my aim. The heading I am yet to work out, that is why I wish to place it some where temp.

" Objective for this project is, collect and enter data subject to certain parameters from
Front Sheets to 2 different sheets dependant on criteria. Some Conditional formatting already done."

It can't go anywhere temporarily, Pete - that's my point.

That would be a bit long for a title. Is the CF reference necessary/relevant?

That's great, Pete, but it doesn't answer my question. You seem to be getting defensive. What do you think I have accused you of this time?

I am just trying to help, as usual.

    Re: Looking for guidance please

Ok I will keep working on it and post the whole thing when I am ready.

That is NOT the job title just what I want out of the thing as a whole.
REthe CF it only to indicate that some things are done in the background.

Good Night from a VERY VERY cold brissy.

Oh, dear ... You don't have to wait until the whole thing is ready. Post what you want, but just don't expect the thread to be removed afterwards.

No you asked if I am business the answer is NOPE and sorry if I came across that way NOT intended.

Th eonly time I would sound defensive is when you are ripping me a new one. Then I usually deserve it.

    Re: Looking for guidance please

The business question was meant as a joke.

I only ever 'rip' you IF you deserve it. But you know that by now.

    G'night, Pete.

What I am dubious about when in one of the last jobs Olly asked why I keep moving the goal post THAT is what to avoid.

    Re: Looking for guidance please

    OK - I understand.

So what I would do is this:

    1. Explain the ultimate aim of the project - what is the whole thing going to achieve?
    2. Say which bit or bits you have already done and provide a sample.
    3. Explain which bit you are now tackling and what you have tried.

It's just a case of keeping things within a context, and not kangarooing all over the place without sticking within that context. Does this make sense?

If I am honest, the biggest issue is that you don't give yourself enough time to read and properly digest questions that are asked of you and then answer them. Instead, you rush into another aspect of it that might or might not be relevant to the task in hand. My advice to you would be take a little longer over things: more haste, less speed!!!

Yes, if you wish, as long as it's not a question about Excel or PowerQuery, which would need to be asked here.
