Alf, hard to see your pic (it's very small), but it is probably a banner I was asked to put up to help new members learn how to upload a file.
1. Use code tags for VBA.
Your Code
(or use the # button)
2. If your question is resolved, mark it SOLVED using the thread tools
3. Click on the star if you think someone helped you
Regards
Ford
I don't think we need this banner in the watercooler section.
If you don't like the banner, hit the cross top right to dismiss it.

I can't see the cross to dismiss it.

Nor can I - must have been seeing things!
Only seen the banner for the first time this morning ... and no red cross.

Hi FordAlf, hard to see your pic
Right click on pic and select "Open image in new tab". This works for Chrome at least
The idea behind this is a good one but the way the tech time implemented it leaves a bit to be desired. For new posters it is as I said a good idea but if you have spent years trying to solve problem in the forum is feels a bit strange.probably a banner I was asked to put up to help new members learn how to upload a file
Should there not be a filter based on something like number of postings one has or days between registering and posting date perhaps?
Alf
Mmmm ... the Tech Team and implementing (stuff) in the same sentence. Now, there's a thoughtThe idea behind this is a good one but the way the tech time implemented it leaves a bit to be desired. There was a red cross. It dropped off somewhere along the way... I'm hugely in favour of the banner, as I can only understand what I see. I can't follow paragraphs of fractured text - especially when the poster is a non-native English speaker - and haven't the patience to retype pictures.

None of us get paid for helping you... we do this for fun. So DON'T FORGET to say "Thank You" to all who have freely given some of their time to help YOU.

Ford implemented it - the tech team had nothing to do with it.
He he ...No surprise therethe tech team had nothing to do with it.
None whatsoever!!!
Sorry about that oxymoronMmmm ... the Tech Team and implementing (stuff) in the same sentence. Now, there's a thought

Just exclude element 'excelforum.com###navbar_notice_55' in your favourite adblocking tool, to suppress it once you've read it.

Walking the tightrope between genius and eejit...
I originally included the option to dismiss it, but then figured that any newbie that "just dismisses" it, wont see it again. For the regulars, just ignore it, as soon as you scroll down, you wont see it.
(cant please all the people, all the time)
It pleases me - I lose count of the number of first responses using the canned "Attach a sample workbook" message. If we could get everyone to update their Excel version in their profile, too, it would make helping much easier!
Grand job, Ford. Happy to have it made permanent. The ability to attach stuff was what brought me here to get help 6 or 7 years ago.
A few of those who helped me so much back then are still very active today!!
I have no problems with it being there. Not wishing to be a damp squib, I do have serious doubts about how much it will help, but I suppose every little helps, as they say at Tesco.
Takes up quite a bit of room when checking out the forum on mobile/tablet.
If posting code please use code tags, see here.
Condition your brain not to see it ...
See what?????
That's what most of our members would say ...
You old cynic, you....
Moi? A cynic?
The message in the banner cops out a bit at the end, as there are no on-screen instructions on the Upload window - just a few buttons on opposite sides of the screen, with no clear direction on what to do with them (and why do we have a list of files and file sizes that can be uploaded ?). It would be better if that screen was redesigned, but I suppose that would be down to the Tech Team to implement, so perhaps the banner should spell out more clearly what to do when you get to the Upload Window.
Pete
I see that the banner can now be dismissed using the red cross at the extreme right.
Pete
I hadn't noticed! But then, I'd trained my brain not to see the banner, anyway ...
Yes, I didn't see it at first.
Pete
Mmm. And it doesn't seem to come back. I think that's a mistake. I'd leave it there permanently.
I thought it would just be dismissed for this session, and then come back when you next logged on, but you are right, Glenn - it seems to have gone completely.
Pete
With uBlock Origin you get rid of advertisements and can create a rule very simply to eliminate things you don't want to see / need
Hey Ford ... thanks a ton for this. It appears to be working. I can not recall having to use my canned response since you posted that banner.
Hope it stays that way.
Dave
OK I made the banner dismissable yesterday (Oct 28.)
Show of hands (or a poll maybe?) on it it should be perm or not?
I'm 100% with Dave. I liked it from the start and I, too, am convinced that it reprsents a big improvement. But.... also make it non-dismissable once more. The "business" of the Forum is to help others. A little incovenience (esp on a phone or similar) for us, to have to scroll down beyond it, is a very small price to pay for getting to the point where we can provide a solution FASTER and with LESS PAIN and FRUSTRATION is well worth it.
Vote early and vote often (as we say over here!!).
I'm happy to go with the majority. Not convinced it's having much effect just by being there, but people are using its presence instead of canned messages to get the message across (i.e. pointing to it). No harm in its being there. I am still (mostly) using my canned message.
Can it be made dismissable, but to return each time you log on? That would be my preference. I've still used my canned replies while it has been displayed, and I had learned to mentally dismiss it while it was up.
Pete
OK I removed the "dismissable", but also changed it to show only once per session.
See how that works?
TbH... I'd leave it there permanently. But it's much better than having no banner....
Edit: since the banner can "come and go" I think that devalues it. You can no longer say "Look at the banner", as it may have disappearred from the User's screen for that "session"; and you'll be left looking like an idiot.
We need to remember that it's there for the benefit, not of us, but of new/inexperienced users and (especially) for non-native English speakers.
There are, fundamentally, really only two choices regarding the banner's fate. Anything else is confusing. they are: Dump It or Keep It. I am 100% for Keep It. Always. Non-dismissable.

Me too. Especially feel that way because of a noticeable increase of wb attachments without prompting for them.I am 100% for Keep It. Always. Non-dismissable.
OK, point taken, it is once again not dismissable.
Great job! Many thanks!!
10-4 ... me too.
