I'd like to take this opportunity to wish all members a very Happy New Year 2020 - I hope that the new decade will be the best yet for all of you. It's certainly shaping up to be a momentous one for me.

Does a new Decade start on 2020 or 2021?. Was the first year 1 or zero? Anyway. Happy New Year.

Technically 2021 as the Gregorian calendar didn't have a year zero but also see the link below.

Well, the precedent was set in 2000 when the start of the new millennium was declared (not my fault!), although technically it should be 2021, I agree.

Easy way out is to do extra celebrations for both (I'll just have to find an excuse to extend it to 2022 as well )

    Re: Happy New Decade!

I tried that in 2001 - got no traction.

Anyway, 2021 is already special for me - that's when I'm retiring.

You'll not regret it!! I left almost 5 years ago and have had a ball since then (though I still run a small consultancy business to pay for exotic holidays). We now live a gypsy existence, roaming from place to place, for as long as we can. Off to Thailand for a month, leaving tomorrow.

Have a super time! I have a former colleague who is now Principal of the Shrewsbury International Riverside in Bangkok - he and his family are absolutely loving it, and travel around the country every holiday.

No, I shan't regret it - I just wish I could have done it in 2020, but I couldn't quite make it work.

Only 321 working days to go ...

Retirement is great. You will never find yourself so busy as you are in retirement. Its a good life.

And for all you ski buffs, it is shaping up to a Powder Day in Ski Town USA. Dumping POW.

    Re: Happy New Decade!

Happy new year to every one, and a (very) early happy new decade!!

I just have to share this Im so exited about it. My sister's (in South Africa) BD is Dec 31 and I face-timed with her for an 1.5 hrs yesterday. She told me they are planning to have her next BD here with me is USA!!! I have not had an xmas with her or celebrated her BD with her in probably close to 20 years, so needless to say, I was (and still am) ecstatic!!
    (sorry, had ro share lol)

    Re: Happy New Decade!

At first I wanted to apoligize for missing this thread but after reading all those posts about retiring I really think it's all of you who should be apologizing to me because you just put me into

some kind of depression (have to wait until Oct 2024 before I'm done with 80hr weeks)

But then after reading Tjaart's comments and noticing he's going to be his annoying little self again this year I just realized it's going to be another fine year on EF.

So to all of you who give their best day in day out on EF a happy new decade.

    Regards

    Rudi
