Very bad forum flaw

Why is there a "reply to thread" button at the bottom of the text input window, which clears the entire window?

I have for the second thread now, typed out a giant reply, and lost it all, absolutely all gone, by pressing the "Reply to Thread" button.

edit: the button isn't always there, it just randomly appears in the bottom left corner of the quick reply window.

That button launches a reply window - it's not a complete button. You can completely ignore it, though: just type directly into the Quick Reply window and then click Post Quick Reply bottom right.

I don't remember anyone ever complaining about it before!

Re: Very bad forum flaw

Hello, thank you for your reply.

I am talking about the bizarre occurrence, observed twice now, and pressed to disastrous effect, appearing in the bottom left, not the top left.

I am not asking how to avoid it.

I am not asking for help with it.

In any case, even if in its proper place in the top left, that button is too close to the actual text input box, many times it will be mistakenly pressed causing all text already input to be lost.

Again, l am not asking what to do, l am telling that this is a flaw.

Re: Very bad forum flaw

Seeing as this has been there "forever" and you are the 1st to claim a problem, perhaps the "flaw" lies not with the forum, but the user?
1. Use code tags for VBA.
Your Code
(or use the # button)
2. If your question is resolved, mark it SOLVED using the thread tools
3. Click on the star if you think someone helped you

Re: Very bad forum flaw

Who said it was there "forever"?

And what does it have to do with me as a person?

How could it be a flaw of mine? Even if it is, that is part and parcel of it being a flawed userland design.

Again, though, how would l be manipulating the position of the + Reply to Thead button?

And as l explained even if the button is in the top left, not bottom left, it's still an issue as it may cause text to be lost.

Don't put me down for telling you of this.

Now l notice it is happening again, so please eat your words, it's not me that places the + Reply to Thread button in the bottom left, making it look like a Send button. See screenshot below. Don't be so arrogant.

Re: Very bad forum flaw

I have been a member here for over 10 years, and I cannot recall any other members having this problem. Nothing has changed in the format of the forum, therefore logic dictates that the error lies not with the forum but with the user - perhaps not quite understanding how to use...or not use... certain functions offered.

I am not suggesting that you are manipulating anything, merely that you are not using the correct tools offered to you. You have already been advised to not use that button, but to use the Post Quick Reply button, I dont see how we can make that any clearer for you?

Re: Very bad forum flaw

If you keep pressing that button to submit a post when you have been told it's not the right button to press to submit your post, then yes, of course it will keep happening - you will keep losing your typed messages.

As both of us have said, you are the only member ever to have suggested that this is a problem. If you still think it is, then you need to complain to the forum software company. The software used is vBulletin - please address your issues to them on their website.

Thank you.

Re: Very bad forum flaw

I'm not saying you said l manipulated the position of the button, l was implying: l couldn't have manipulated the position of the button, therefore it's a flaw with the forum software.

As you know, forum software gets regularly updated.

I was trying to be helpful. I'm sorry.

I shall leave it there, thank you. We may meet again if l need more formula aid.

Re: Very bad forum flaw

Neither of us said or even implied that you had somehow moved the button - we know it's there.

The software used here will only be updated if the owner of this forum decides to update it. That's completely beyond our control, I am afraid, and even if it were within our control, we would not look at changing anything unless it had proved problematic for a significant number of our users. That's just not the case here.

Thank you for raising the issue, but now that you understand what that button is there for, you shouldn't misuse it in future.
