Post has disappeared after marking it "Solved"

    Hello,

I had a post this week which was going amazing and when it was solved (all within the same day of posting it) I tried change the status to "SOLVED" but when I did the page immediately refreshed and said:

    "vBulletin Message
No Thread specified. If you followed a valid link, please notify the administrator"
Now, the link I have for the post only takes me to this page which gives me that message every time.

I tried contacting the Web Master several times but no reply.

Also, before, when I was posting something I was always able to "Preview Post" before actually posting it... but now when I hit Preview Post it does show me the preview but the post editing panel is blank and since it's blank nothing gets posted when I click on the button to "Submit new Thread". So I have to type it all over again (copy/paste from the preview - lucky).

I tried with different computers at home and at work (different operating systems and different web browsers) and it is the same result.

Does any one know what's going on?

ps. I typed this post and I am simply doing "Submit New Thread" since I know the Preview Post will clear the post editing panel.

The title of the post was:

Find duplicate rows that have different sequences (cell values are the same but in different cell positions)

    The actual URL was:

Please Login or Register to view this content.
The solution was found and I marked it as SOLVED and immediately disapeard. All I get now is that message I already mentioned.

I have been through all your posts back to 2018, the only other 1 I can find that "might" relate is

Otherwise, I cant find anything that would match

Oh no no, there is a misunderstanding here. I apologize for that.

I made a new post just this past Friday morning: October 15, 2021.

A few hours later a solution was found and I tried to mark it as SOLVED. When I did marked it as SOLVED the post immediately vanished. I still have the link to the post (the one I provided in reply #5) but when you go there all you see is that message of "...no thread specified".

I made a copy of the post (see attached file), I always do.

I emailed the Web Masters about this but no reply yet.

I have no other post missing, just this one from this past Friday.

That's exactly whey I am inquiring about this. I do not want their work to vanish from the world.

I made a copy of the post and I got the solution, but the world should know who made it possible.

I did manage to give them "rep" though, before the post vanished.

Oops... you are right. I'm very sleepy now. I'll correct the post to reflect the right date.

You can see the right date in the attached zip file though.

I understand. It's best to be safe. I had no other way to show the actual saved post though.

Re: Post has disappeared after marking it "Solved"

Thanks. I have searched and can find no trace of the thread. I have heard of new threads with just one post disappearing inexplicably (rare, but it has happened), but this is the first time I remember a substantial thread going missing.

    Putting on my deerstalker:

    1. I think the fact that you marked the thread as solved is a red herring - the image clearly shows the thread as solved, so that action did not delete it.
    2. This will not have been deleted accidentally: if it had been, then it would have most likely been a mod selecting the wrong thread when eliminating SPAM, and if that had occurred, you'd also have been banned, which clearly isn't the case.

I'm sorry, but I think you are just going to have to accept it as one of life's little mysteries.

Sadly, contacting the webmaster will never get you anywhere: the site owner and tech team behind it don't respond (they don't seem interested). This is beyond our control, unfortunately.

This thread is in the wrong place, though: I'm going to move it to The Water Cooler.

Re: Post has disappeared after marking it "Solved"

If you have the power to move it to the "The Water Cooler" doesn't that also mean that you have some access to see what happened on the server side?

As you can see, I made a copy of it. I got the solution. What I wanted is that the answer does not get lost, to be there for others to see, and for the programmer who gave the answer not to go un-noticed.

I do not have a "per-say" personal issue with the thread disappearing. I just like what's right to be right. That's all.

Again, if you are a Forum Moderator, don't you have access to the network "trash"? Each server has a folder for deleted files or for spam. I'm just wondering.

If it is lost, then is lost. At least I did my part in trying to figure out what happened.

It's a shame the web master (or someone with access to the hosting server) do not care to reply to issues or questions.

    Oh well.

ps. How does one become a Moderator in this forum? How did you do it?

No - I am a mod, not an admin, and I'm not even sure admins have that level of access to the back end.

What I wanted is that the answer does not get lost, to be there for others to see, and for the programmer who gave the answer not to go un-noticed.
Unfortunately, by some quirk or other, it has got lost, and I am afraid that's that - there's nothing we can do.

Again, if you are a Forum Moderator, don't you have access to the network "trash"? Each server has a folder for deleted files or for spam. I'm just wondering.
Again, no, and as I mentioned before, if we try to engage the tech team in finding and reinstating one thread out of thousands, we'll get nowhere fast (sad reality, but as I said before, beyond our control). It's hard enough getting them to act when something really serious happens!

ps. How does one become a Moderator in this forum? How did you do it?
I was invited - that's how it works - but you'd need to be a lot more prolific than you are - 88 posts in just under three years wouldn't cut the mustard.

Can't you just create a new post using the text that you have already saved?

Eventually (I had already thought about this) I will probably make a new post and simply post the problem and give the solutions and credit those who solved it. I already uploaded a copy of that post here so is not "lost" per se.

No, but an image isn't searchable. Pete's idea is a good one, if you have time to do it.
