    Off topic 2010-02 -- February

Time seems to move too quickly for weekly off-topic threads. As soon as people start to warm up to a subject, the week is out. So I'm trying a monthly thread instead. Let's see how that goes.

Post anything you'd like to get off your chest and feel does not warrant its own post.

    Rant, rave, share, challenge, celebrate!

Congratulations to pike for achieving guru status. This happened a few days ago, but it is well deserved!

guru is misspelt shouldn't pike be an " urgu " as in after a night on the beer ,head peeks out from under covers and says urghhh ooooooh, but maybe i'm just generalising on Aussies

My comment was more about the effect of Water Cooler posts on the post count in Excelforum (i.e. = 0), but thanks for following up on my web history (is it in your favourites? LOL). My post is on another page, though....

Nah, we know for most of members why did they pick their name.

    (Accidently, I'm not one of them 0: ) )

Re: Off topic 2010-02 -- February

Challenge: who other than the owner of the nick can explain:

    DonkeyOte
    DaddyLongLegs
    pike
    ratcat
    romperstomper
    darkyam
    contaminated
    sweep
    ProtonLeah
    oldChippy
    WHER
    ChemistB
    Huron
    squiggler47
    jaslake
    mallycat
    ConneXionLost

That's just a random pick of the members with 2+ rep icons whose name is not obviously an abbreviation of their real name. If I missed anyone, please amend.

ratcat, maybe you don't need to start that thread then, after all, except for the real handles wanting to put things right.

    So, any ideas?

I think there is something like that Teylyn back in the days when the Water Cooler became a fixture in the forum.

    ***Goings looking**

Edit: Stop looking I found the thread

I know the origin of DonkeyOte, but then it was my suggestion, so that's not fair...

Sad to tell, there isn't really any "story" behind "daddylonglegs". My sole criterion when choosing a moniker was "something easy to type".........

Re: Off topic 2010-02 -- February

DonkeyOte wordplay on Don Quixote (one of my fav monikers)
DaddyLongLegs referring to the Cranefly, no other significance (according to DDL)
pike tough one, my first thought is relating to the fish but the bunny avatar throws me off. Could be a reference to a medieval polearm or the New Jersey Turnpike.
    Ratcat: it rhymes
Romperstomper another rhyme. Not sure if it’s a reference to a deep seated hatred of the old preschool program "romper room".
Darkyam combined reference to Dark Helmet in Spaceballs and the Yam that became king of the world in Pinky & the Brain
Contaminated Possible chemistry, ecology or biology student?
Sweep Chimney sweep by day, Excel master, also by day.
ProtonLeah a fan of elementary particles and Star Wars?
oldChippy Chip off the old block
WHER fan of Dragonriders of Pern
    ChemistB Me
Huron decended from the Native American Huron tribe of Canada and USA
squiggler47 Squiggler because he likes to doodle, 47 because there are 46 other doodlers.
    Jaslake no guess.
Mallycat word play on Alley Cat, real name Mallory
    ConneXionLost: no guess.
    ChemistB
    My 2?
