Notification if thread has new comments

I know this has been mentioned before, but can we please get a notification if a thread we are looking at has received an answer while we are looking? It is becoming quite annoying to finish and post an answer only to find someone else has answered it quite well a minute and a half before me.

Do we need to start a petition thread to make this enhancement to the forum?
Is your code running too slowly?
Does your workbook or database have a bunch of duplicate pieces of data?

It will save both time and effort in the long run!

I'm not sure how far a petition would get you.

If you post a similar suggestion within a few minutes of someone else, it will be quite obvious that it is a parallel post.

If I want to make sure not to post the same thing as someone else, I first write my post, then copy the content of the message in the reply window. Then I hit F5 to let the thread refresh. If nobody has posted anything that duplicates my suggestion, I just paste into the Quick Reply box and submit.

    cheers

As my answers are always far superior to anyone else's I don't find this to be an issue

Use code tags when posting your VBA code:
Your code here
Remember, saying thanks only takes a second or two. Click the little star to give some Rep if you think an answer deserves it.

I understand this is an option, but if I have a solution that takes me five minutes to build and someone answers it correctly 30 seconds in to me working, I'd like to know I don't have to waste the extra 4.5 minutes.

It really isn't a big deal, but the if the owners or operators of this site are looking for enhancement ideas, this would be one.

So all we have to do is put a bell around the Domski's neck. Well, that idea is fine, but who would bell the Domski?

As I'm already on the Pinot Grigio I would imagine that wouldn't be too hard later.

I do agree it would be a useful feature.

    Dom,

If my memory serves me correctly, you may be the best person to make the request for this as a new feature. Afterall, back in the ol' days were there were open discussions about forum improvements - didn't Vai have a pet name for you...?

(I haven't been here very regularly in the past few months but I assume Vai is still one of the crew behind the scenes?)

If I could add a quick request, could we have the code tags button added to the quick reply toolbar?

I personally like the fact that there are multiple answers per thread. It shows a variety ways to accomplish tasks, which can remove tunnel vision when writing code.

Re: Notification if thread has new comments

Here's a relevant question I think, are the 'behind the scenes' people ie: owners, webmaster(s) and others, making money from this site or are they volunteers like us? I would think that if they donate their time to the site more than the value they get paid for their time, then they might no be inclined to be maintaining the site like they should. Maybe? Maybe Not? At any rate, hopefully they do indeed fix the problems before they get worse and people stop coming here!

While we are wishing for the moon, can we have a forum that works all day long, please?

I would assume they work directly or indirectly for Vai who owns the place and are paid to do so.

You ask for too much all at once. Let's start with babysteps: 23 hours a day.

Besides, if it gets fixed what will we talk about all day?
