    Infractions

Anyone else have any infractions? I had one on July 31, 2009 and it will forever stand in my User CP to haunt me. Arthurbr had informed the OP that they needed to change their thread title and I, either because of naivety or rebelliousness or perhaps just caught up in the thrill of actually knowing a response in July of 09, chose to continue the thread with the OP. It was shg the beast who actually threw the infraction at me.

    Re: Infractions

I have one. May 2009. It took me 10 minutes or so to work out a sumproduct() at the time, and I did not refresh before proudly posting my answer. In the meantime, NBVC had requested a title change. So I collected a red card.

    Re: Infractions

It's an interesting coincidence that I received my first (yellow) infraction under similar circumstances to ChemistB. It was shortly after I'd joined and should have known the rules better. (The guilt haunts me still.)

My second (red) was similar to teylyn. After tinkering too long with a formula, I posted without seeing that pike had slipped in quietly with a title request. The moment I realized what I had done, I scrambled to retract my post, but... the damage was done. (This one bothers me even more, my faux-pas is one thing, but to do it to a friend is truly embarrassing.)

Perhaps a peculiar note; it was shg that actually tagged me on both occasions. This raises the question: Which Mod is the most prolific / fastest gun-slinger, er... "infraction-slinger" in our forum?

    Re: Infractions

Oh, I've sent some frantic PMs to shg and other mods, after realising that he had posted a title change request just before I posted my suggestion. "Sorry, I did not see your title change request before posting. Please don't red-card me."

Now, from the moderator perspective, I tend to give the benefit of the doubt to the member, as long as the time elapsed between mod request and apparent "ignoring" post is not too long.

On the other hand, if I've been working on a solution for more than a few minutes, I tend to hit F5 before I post it, to make sure that my post would not be a duplicate of a faster mind's suggestion.

F5 is your friend and can be very helpful to see where the thread is at before you post. Both for mod requests and other contributions.

    I've had 2 both reversed!

the first was for posting a reply after a title request, I replied after the change but obviously before the Moderator saw the change!

The second time for the same thing, all that was in my post was please change the title!

Lol, and I've noticed recently one or two new members with < 20 posts with a large percentage of the posts just quoting the rules!

Often if I see a mis-titled post by newer members who are struggling for a title I will suggest one, more so if I see a nicely asked question, I tend to ignore frantic I need it now requests!

    Re: Infractions

I got my second a few days ago.

I discovered that an OP had posted the same question in three different threads on this forum, and possibly a fourth under a different username.
Unfortunately I posted this observation after a moderator had posted a request for code tags, obviously a much more serious crime.
To top it, and presumably to show the fairness of the system, another contributer got an infraction for posting later, his crime, after replying several times in these threads, was for stating
I'm getting confused and frustrated by your multiple overlapping posts and lack of feedback on the originals so I'm dropping out. Good luck.
And guess what? There are still no tags in the offending post!!!
If you need any more information, please feel free to ask.

However,If this takes care of your needs, please select Thread Tools from menu above and set this topic to SOLVED. It helps everybody! ....

    Re: Infractions

I think I got the very first infraction given....

It was a test infraction given by Simon Lloyd (or fabulous administrator at the time).

It was obviously reversed.. but it remains in my "infractions log" and looks yukky!

Got three, one was reversed - ignoring moderator's request.

It's really annoying to visit my CP and see these - wish they could disappear after expiring.

There's a button on the right which hides them - it's an orange arrow on mine. If I ever delete cookies (where the toggle is scored) mine comes back (from shg - clearly the meanest mod! ) it comes back and reminds me

jwright - you will know when you receive an infraction because you are notified in your CP when they are given.

    Re: Infractions

My first one was because I responded to a thread where someone had first posted a suggestion to change the thread title. Ironically the first line of my own post was telling the OP that he should have a better thread title. I looked back at the thread to see which moderator posted the instruction (can't remember who it was) and it wasn't marked as a moderator at all; it was "wizened and grizzled exalted forum wizard" or some such thing that did not contain the words "moderator" or "administrator."

I was subsequently educated that the request doesn't have to be from an actual moderator to warrant a ding for "ignoring moderators requests."
