i know they are well known, which is why i was hoping to hear some feedbacks from those who have attended those courses.
Looks like you pay for Excel Hero Academy and Chandoo is free. Hedge your bets and start with the free one. There are also lots of other sites and forums where you can get examples and tutorials. This forum has Tips and Tutorials. You'll find videos elsewhere though it would not be politically correct to be too specific.
I guess it all depend on where you are starting from, what your learning style is, and whether or not you have a project you want/need to work on. I tend to find I work and learn better if I have something to apply the learning to so that I can consolidate and develop it.

chandoo is not free either. he has some articles and blog posts sharing excel tips, but the courses are not free. :\
Google "Excel Video". You'll find lots of free stuff from basic to advanced.
As I said, I don't know where you're starting from, if you have a project, if you have specific questions/problems, whatever.
But, that said, you should find something to move you from wherever you are to a much higher level.
Unless you want to pay for someone to hold your hand, many of the videos are as effective, if not more so, than paid for training.
