    Sorting issues to be resolve...

    Hello Friend's,

Just a query on sorting family names...
    if we sort the names
Del Rosario and Dela Cruz it goes
    Del Rosario
    Dela Cruz
is it correct??? our admin say's it should be
    Dela Cruz
    Del Rosario
any specific site or document that can we refer to in the rules in sorting..

    thanks

I think people forget the word "THANK YOU!!!!" Do you still know it???

There is a little star ( ADD REPUTATION ) below those person who helped you. Click it to say your "PRIVATE APPRECIATION TO THEIR EFFORT ON THEIR CONTRIBUTIONS "

    Regards,
    Vladimir

I should say first one is correct...
Blank should be before character since Del (without second word) would be before Dela.

Re: Sorting issues to be resolve...

thanks zbor that's also my stand,
those person's think they're always right..
they say that if there are two words that should be something like concatenated
Del Rosario will become delrosario and Dela cruz is delacruz so DELR and DELA

..just wondering is there a book of rules regrading this sorting issues that i can use to defend my side...you see i think i will be needing a black and white here.

thanks for looking at this one.

According to wiki they are both right, depend on what you need:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alphabetical_order

    Treatment of multiword strings

When some of the strings being ordered consist of more than one word, i.e. they contain spaces or other separators such as hyphens, then two basic approaches may be taken. In the first approach, all strings are ordered initially according to their first word, as in the sequence:
San; San Cristobal; San Tomas; Santa Barbara; Santa Cruz
where all strings beginning with the separate word San precede all those beginning Santa, because San precedes Santa in alphabetical order.
In the second approach, strings are alphabetized as if they had no spaces, giving the sequence:
San; San Cristobal; Santa Barbara; Santa Cruz; San Tomas
where San Tomas now comes after the Santa strings, as it would if it were written "Santomas".

I was reading the pdf i'm in page 2 now, but i think your explanation will be much effective than giving my own interpretation of the pdf it's in "English" not my major language.

    THanks a lot zbor.
