    Unanswered Thread

    Hi,

Was wondering what the expectation / process was once a thread has been posted as far as waiting for responses and the possible next steps one can take to get help with the thread question.

Is a few days to short, is a week to long, is it best to wait till after a weekend?
Do you eventually delete your thread if it's not answered or do you leave it out there forever?
Do you re-write it and then re-post? (I'm thinking this is not so good if you don't change it significantly?)
Is there a way to have the thread moved back up in the thread posting que so it's more timely and perhaps it will be looked at again?
Do you post it in a different forum heading?
How do you know if you have it under the right forum, seems this is purely subjective to one's own thoughts which could be completely off and you might not even think you are?

    Thanks

    Copied from the form Rules

•If your question has not been answered within a day, consider adding another post with any additional information you believe is relevant. If you think your post is good as is, just reply to your own thread with the words "Bump no response", which will bring it to the top of the forum.

    Re: Unanswered Thread

    In My Humble Opinion;
Is a few days to short, is a week to long, is it best to wait till after a weekend?
Depending on the complexity of the problem, I'd expect an answer in a few days.
Do you eventually delete your thread if it's not answered or do you leave it out there forever?
No, leave it there forever, unless you want it moved to a different forum (see below)
Do you re-write it and then re-post? (I'm thinking this is not so good if you don't change it significantly?)
If it's been a few days and no one has responded, then the odds are that people are having trouble understanding it. If you haven't attached an example workbook showing what you have and where you want to go, then do so. Clarifying a post that is getting no responses is a good idea.
Is there a way to have the thread moved back up in the thread posting que so it's more timely and perhaps it will be looked at again?
Yes, just post a reply to your own thread and that will bump it back to the top of the list. Doing this too often will make a thread look like it has lots of replys and some people will skip over it thinking others are already working on it so do this judiciously.
Do you post it in a different forum heading?
You can have your thread moved to a different forum if you think that makes sense. Just ask a moderator in a private message.
How do you know if you have it under the right forum, seems this is purely subjective to one's own thoughts which could be completely off and you might not even think you are?
You'll typically get an answer in any forum, I've seen many formula answers in the VBA forum and visa-versa. If a moderator strongly feels it belongs in a different forum, they will move it for you.

    Hope that helps.

I understand your difficulty. If 100 people looked at your question and none replied it may be that none knew the answer or that none understood the question. There are a number of other forums to which your unanswered question could be re-posted. Is there a specific post that got no responses? If so, give us the link.

Thanks very much, good advise, wasn't sure I was being to impatient or just to nieve. This is the first such thing I've ever joined on-line in and I feel very awkward.

Thanks, I think I copied the link (at least text wise) below correctly, but it doesn't appear to be a hyper one.
