Learning how to use Excel Forum

I am new here and am finding that I am not very good at using Excel Forum. Just today, I ran into a problem trying to post. When I clicked on the submit button, the computer indicated that it was waiting for the answer to be processed. At this point, I didn't know what to do because my ISP has also been having problems. I made the mistake of clicking Submit again (dumb move) and I killed the process in the address bar. It was then that I discovered that I had entered the same message twice. I couldn't find a way to delete one of the messages. Is there a way? I tried to edit one of the messages to have no text....mistake! An error message popped up saying that I had to enter a certain number of characters.....I was at a loss as to what I should enter without looking like the idiot that I am proving to be.

Another mistake I made was in deleting attachments that I found in my settings (somewhere). I had uploaded several responses and didn't want to take up a lot of space on this site with my attachments so I deleted them. I then discovered that all the uploads that I had made were not only deleted from my listing of uploads, they were deleted from my response messages. I didn't realize that this would happen.

I used to operate a Fido Net node so the idea behind forums and messages and attachments is not a new one for me but I am somewhat lost here and end up doing things that I can't undo.

I haven't had much luck in getting help from the help files. Maybe I'm just entering the wrong search terms. At this point, I just don't know.

Do I just keep trying by trial and error or is there a better way?

Have you had a look at the FAQ ? Click here http://www.excelforum.com/faq.php and you will get the help you need.

Also, you cannot delete threads or posts as a regular user. Only mods and admin can do it. So if you want a post to be deleted, click on the triangle icon below the post and it will be reported to the mods for deletion.

Ooops, i guess you lost all your attachments. Am not sure if there is a way of retrieving it from the backend, though i can find it out for you.

Also, we were facing server issues around noon US time, so thats why maybe you were not able to submit your posts. Now its more stable.
If I have helped, Don't forget to add to my reputation (click on the star below the post)
Don't forget to mark threads as "Solved" (Thread Tools->Mark thread as Solved)

Re: Learning how to use Excel Forum

Thank you for the tips. I did visit the FAQ and saw the entry for Editing and Deleting of posts. This is where I ran into a bit of trouble when I read this in the FAQ. "To edit or delete your posts, click the Edit Post button by the particular post. If your post was the first in the thread, then deleting it may remove the entire thread." That lead me to believe that there should be a way to delete my post or edit it. Editing was easy but deleting had me stumped. Now I will go back and see if I can locate the message that I really wanted to delete and click on the triangle as you direct.

Thank you very much for your help.

I actually went through your posts and deleted that post. So you do not have to worry about it.

I think we need to edit the FAQ to mention that the moderators can delete only. Thanks for bringing that up through this thread.
