    Poorly forum

I think I'm going to sign off for a couple of days, or at least not attempt to check the board.

It is horrendously slow again, taking forever to deliver or refresh screens, it's regularly doing it's best to generate duplicate posts, and occasionally, like yesterday, it crashes.

I can't help feeling that with such an inept management and Tech Support Team, why would anyone want to sign up to pay money to such a bunch of amateurs?

I offered to buy the forum from Vaibai, but he is not interested. Go figure, he is content with running it into the ground.
Be fore warned, I regularly post drunk. So don't take offence (too much) to what I say.

I experienced this problem yesterday, for the first time. It's okay now.

    Re: Poorly forum

The tech team really need to stick a "Men at work" notice on the site whenever they are tickering in the background or running a process that kills the sites performance.

Just leaving members waiting minutes for page refreshes or worse getting server error dumps is so amateurish

    Re: Poorly forum

I get the impression they have no idea that their "tinkering in the background" affects the performance of the site.

And my experience of working with people in India is that, if you ask them if everything is working well, they will say yes, whether it is or not. You expect/hope the answer will be yes and that's what you get.

Of course, it could just be the impact of all the Moderators converting Experts into Gurus or whatever. Two days seems to be an awful long time in India, doesn't it?

    Re: Poorly forum

We had some server issues yesterday but today its in control.

Also, TMS, i dont understand why the level (expert or guru) is a deciding factor on whether you should answer questions here or not.

The mods and admin will take care of their work of changing the levels once they all decide on the list of members. But i guess the others can carry on whatever good work they have been doing on the forum right?

I didn't say the title was an issue or that it would prevent me from answering question. You may have noticed that I am still answering questions. The question was, jokingly, could that be a factor that was slowing the performance down. Clearly, a bulletin board forum doesn't always carry humour well.

With regard to problems yesterday, none today is exactly the point I'm making. I've had slow refreshes again today, attempts at duplicate posts and page not available. So, you may think, or state, that everything is well but it truly is not the case.

    Regards, TMS

    Re: Poorly forum

Isn't it time to upgrade the forum ? The current version is getting slower and slower and gives a very 'out of date' impression.
The current version seems to be VBulletin 4.1.8; A new version 4.2 is available.
But better still the new VBulletin 5.0 version !!

Everything would be better after the upgrade they promised last time (08-12-2011), so why not this time ?

Sometimes you just need to shut down so that "things" can refresh.

VB4.2.1 has fixed some bugs but is essentially the same as this version (and it's also benefitted from many security holes being plugged) VB5 is still in beta and has a whole new way of coding, adding or removing stuff so is a whole new learning curve.
