Infractions

    Hello all,

I have noticed on some posters that along with the location, contribution count (which seems to actually be posting count) that there is something about infractions with a couple of numbers shown.

What do the numbers mean, how do you manage to get an infraction (which sounds like something to be avoided like the plague) and can anybody else see the reason for the infraction apart from moderators and the offender??

    Re: Infractions

We give infractions for not complying with forum rules, and it depends on the member's "standing" and what was done (or not done).

A new member, not using code tags, will get asked to add them the 1st time, get given a warning the 2nd time and then an infraction (with points deducted) if the rule is still not cpmplied with.

A member that has a good number of posts behind them, and who should know better, will probably have the 1st 2 steps skipped.

It's pretty much a slap onthe wrist, but if it is serious enough, a member could be banned from the forum
    1. Use code tags for VBA.
Your Code
(or use the # button)
    2. If your question is resolved, mark it SOLVED using the thread tools
    3. Click on the star if you think someone helped you

It means they've been sent to the naughty step with a rough idea of for how long. And they'll never be allowed to forget it because you can't hide it (apparently). So it show up in your CP every time you go there

    Re: Infractions

Apparently. ... I was new! Check out when I joined, and when I got most of the warnings/infractions. In my opinion, a lot to do with timing, inexperience on the forum, not refreshing the threads after working up a solution, and some heavy handed moderation. Not that I bear a grudge. Well, not much of a grudge, anyway.

    Thanks Ford & Trevor,
I would never have guessed you two were once "bad boys", it certainly doesn't show on any of your posts whereas for other users it does.

I suppose I had better read all the rules again, the one I am most likely to fall foul of is the response to a thread that a moderator has issued a request to that wasn't there when i started my response, nearly got caught once last week on this problem

    will mark this as solved

Only those infractions which are active will show in the posts the user makes, but the expired ones will not show.

    Re: Infractions

Do expired infractions remain in your User CP forever?

Wouldn't it be slightly better (and fairer?) if they were simply grouped in chronologically with the Reputation? As it is, everytime you go into your User CP, even expired infractions still hang over you like the sword of Damocles...

Not that, like Trevor, I bear a grudge or anything (you caught me fair and square, Arlu )

    Cheers
