    Friday Geekiness - Forum Analysis

Came home from work in a bad mood. Nothing sorts that better than a bit of pointless Excel geekiness. So I played with the Top Ranked member list

    Top100ChartPosts.jpg

This is a quick analysis showing the relationship between post count and ranking for the top 100 rated forum posters...

Thoroughly pointless, and yet (for me) quite interesting...! File is attached, because... well, why not...! Would be interested to see if others can refresh the data.

Come on - show us your Friday night geekiness.

Hi Olly, hope you are feeling better after that exercise.

I think the top or rank of the members list is by Rep Points, which I don't know how to find. I think the numbers you show are number of posts. If a member is a moderator they need to do lots more than answer questions. They also need to tell new users about the rules and admin stuff. Each post is a point. The list is sorted by rep. I'm not sure you can correlate the two effectively. Maybe there should be a rep per post ratio that we could look at. This would work except for the mods like above need to post rule stuff and wouldn't be expected to get rep for that.

Once again. Hope you feel better. I did like the graph!! I just don't know if conclusions can be drawn from it.

I know it's sorted by rep. Hence looking at the trendline - very roughly speaking, those below the trendline get more rep per post, those above get less... Our very own Arlu is a prime example of the influencing factors you mention.

It's not intended to be a serious exercise - just a bit of fun

The current rep system has only been in place for a few years, so many members had some or many posts that were not subject to receiving rep.

What I really wanted to get was a dataset of posts / rep by location, so I could make an Excel Forum post choropleth

I guess you and I will have to do our best to up that proportion of the "choropleth" (you learn something every day!) which represents the Northeast of England then, Olly!

Looking at join dates, and seeing who in the list above you has joined more recently

A nod towards correlating duration of membership with ranking.

(DO remember, this is just a bit of fun!!)
