Chip, if you can read this, you're STILL making the world a better place with your immeasurably valuable gifts. Every week, you continue to help me (and untold numbers of others) tremendously. Practically no alternative outlets can match your effectiveness, even over the vast number of topics you demystify and empower usage of. You were, and still are, amazing.

Common courtesy is the order of the day. Avoid coarse language, personal attacks and inflammatory remarks. Address your concerns at topics and not at people. Just because the object of your attack is not a member here doesn't mean it's OK.

    Re. reRenaming.. Office Versions. + - 2003, 2007 comparisons compatibility and t such ..:)

Office Versions. + - 2003, 2007 comparisons compatibility and the such.....
    I came in at XL2007 +
( I did find XL 2003 on an old Notebook I bought. But sadly the Notebook died )
Even without the experience of XL2003, my reaction to the Ribbon was that it was a bit of a “Pretty” unnecessary thing. ( I am not sure if that is what is being referred to by ... “ 2007+ versions' interfaces are hopelessly incompetently deproductively crippled “... ... )

I think the Ribbon is one of these dammed things you get used to using, then miss it when it is not there, Like Smart Phone Apps, or those songs that are used in telly adds – you do not really like them but they somehow are evilly put into your brain. If they were never presented you would never miss them and would do all you can do with them just as quickly but your brain might still be a bit more active.
I think things like ribbons are a bit of as brain killer, like video games , Windows etc.. but just my opinion. )
If I am at a fixed location then I try to use a Big telly as the second monitor for my Excel spreadsheet. Then the ribbon is tolerable. If I am trying to work mobile on a single screen, then I usually click the dam thing away to give me more space.

    I found this thing:_...

_.. which lets you make Office 2007 + “look” like XL 2003. But it does not save you space.

    _.__________
I guess a good practice to get used to is to click the Ribbon away once you have your spreadsheet doing what you want.
If you need then any functions after the main spreadsheet is finished, then I personally favour the idea of writing yourself a macro to do it, and run that off short cut keys. ( By the way, just a Tip I recently noticed: There are extended short cut keys available, so you can have lots of them : http://www.eileenslounge.com/viewtop...=25188#p195431 )

    _.___________________________

I think this might be relevant.. to the original post .. which has “gone”.?!.
In terms of version compatibility / comparison.
I lack the multi version experience. But I have asked experienced users on this one. I have often been told that XL 2010 seems like the most “stable” version to date. I expect however, many experienced professionals will probably have been forced to go with the newest version to some extent, so may have lost the memory of the earlier versions.
My limited experience is around mostly 2007 and 2010: A couple of compatibility problems I have noticed:
_1) The “add a PtrSafe for XL 2007” story

( I do not quite understand what this is all about, but the Links may give someone an idea )

    _2) Simple String Functions “Go Astray 2010 – 2007”
If you use simple VBA Strings object collection Functions, ( like Left( , ) , Mid( , , ) etc... ) in a code written in XL2010 you will find that the code errors in XL2007. It appears the default library where Excel “looks” for those string functions does not exist in XL2007.
The fix is to add an extra qualifier, like
    VBA.Strings.Left( , )
    or
    VBA.Left( , )

Oppressed1, I removed only the part of your post that was a personal attack on an individual using unacceptable language for this forum. It was moderation that is consistent with our standards here and it did not diminish the useful content of your post in the least. Now that you have removed your entire post you have guaranteed that the thread is now entirely useless. Thread closed.
