Is it just me, or do people have their own librarys?

    Hi guys,

I've found that I've been creating a collection of my solved problems and how to use them in other cases etc, so I can copy and paste them (with some alteration) into future macros and stuff.
Am I the only one doing this, or does everyone do this?

I mean, I don't ALWAY do it, (not for small stuff), but I found I am able to use a bunch of my own "tools", if I am working on a really big problem. Does this sound about right for you guys?

    Cheers,
    Jimmy

Just had a thought... I might have posted this in the wrong section.

Is there a way for me to move this to a correct section of the forum?

    Thanks,
    Jimmy

    .
It's not just you. I believe most folks have a "toolbox" to utilize. Why wouldn't you ? Certainly beats having to search the NET all the while.

A week ago there was a post about 'How do you store and catalogue your toolbox for future reference/search?'. You will find, once your toolbox
has a reasonable number of scripts, locating/retrieving what you want becomes an issue.

If you devise an effective system please let us know.

    Thanks Logit,

Sounds interesting. Have you got any URLs or anything to point me towards what you're talking about?
I starting to run into the same problem you're talking about; its somewhat manageable but would be interested in seeing how others are organizing their bits of code.

    thanks,
    Jimmy

I found this the other day while browsing vbaexpress, you might find interesting.

And yes I have a very extensive code library. I haven't used this however. I use something a bit more customized to my usage (also all in one file).

If you want something done right... find a forum and ask an online expert.

I have a tendency to extract the bits of code I find handy and reconfigure them to accept parameters such as path names, file names, sheet names ... whatever. Then I put this code in a module with a descriptive name such as ModClearTable. Then I save the module as a *BAS file. Normally, Excel will put the BAS files in the same directory with the Excel Code. I prefer not to clutter up this directory so I made a directory called My Excel and it has two sub-directories: Queries and VBA Code. Once you navigate to your chosen directory, Excel will remember where you put the stuff and open to that directory to save and recover.

You can open BAS files in notepad to see the code.

I "sneaker net" the code from computer to computer, but I suppose you could put your directories in a cloud.
One spreadsheet to rule them all. One spreadsheet to find them. One spreadsheet to bring them all and at corporate, bind them.

A picture is worth a thousand words, but a sample spreadsheet is more likely to be worked on.

I have actually been putting my code snippets in MS Onenote and I title each note what the code snippet does. This makes for easy retrieval when I do a quick search. I primarily use Evernote for this, however my current work location doesn't allow access to Evernote so I have been using Onenote instead. Evernote I can add tags etc which also makes easy retrieval of the snippets. Of course you can have several snippets on one sheet just make sure to name it as such. Example: VLOOK UP, Formula using "IF" statements with DATES. "VBA for Copying Data from one sheet to another"

Evernote has some additional features when looking up and at the code. But Onenote seems to be doing the trick. I just copied over a lot of my snippets into Onenote and I was off and running.
