I became curious which functions could handle 3D refereces such as alpha:omega!C3:X99. It seems CHOOSE can, but IFS and SWITCH can't.

Vary cell summary!B1. The formula in A1 calling CHOOSE evaluates as expected. The formulas in A3 and A5, calling SWITCH and IFS, respectively, only work when B1 is 1.

Main point: Stick to Old School: CHOOSE rocks, IFS and SWITCH stink.

Secondary point: 3D references were introduced in Excel 4 in 1992. It appears that nearly 3 decades later, MSFT has no plans to make them more usable than they were in .XLW workbooks back then.
