Re: Windows 10 Security Updates after October 10, 2025

Windows 10 is almost 10 years old. All products get sunset for support. However, this is the first time I've seen support continued as a pay-to-play option.

I upgraded to Windows 11 for free several months ago and haven't looked back.

I have two laptops running Windows 10. They're both old, one very old. Neither will support Windows 11.

I have Kaspersky on all my machines, and I have NordVPN.

Both laptops have had the hard disks replaced with SSDs and they do everything I need. I have no plans to retire them and buy replacements.

I had a laptop running Win 10. About a year ago, I replaced the Hard Drive and not the entire machine with an updated Drive that would allow Win 11. Cost was about 300 US Dollars. A bigger or smaller HD would change the price.

Mine are too old to have Trusted Platform Module version 2.0 (TPM 2.0).

I have a laptop like that too. It works great, does everything I need it for, and will run Windows 10 until it will no longer power up. I think it's about 8-10 years old.

Same here. Old (2014) laptop that will not support Windows 11. Does everything I want/need. No plans to switch.

Re: Windows 10 Security Updates after October 10, 2025

I think the ASUS is maybe 10 years old, the TOSHIBA quite a bit older. Both upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10 and had the hard disks replaced a couple of years ago. Made a hell of a difference. But, sadly, not going to be able to go to Windows 11 even if I wanted to.

And I’m sick of the regular pestering that you can't switch off and they're even advertising crap now (well, I think it's X-BOX games but I’ve never had one of those).

Good grief, I’m nearly 74. I'm not going to be using the kit forever.

On my laptops . Every so often, there's a full screen display encouraging you to upgrade to Windows 11. The options are to "Learn more" or "Remind me later".

I know I can't upgrade because I’ve run the compatibility check. So, I don't want to learn more or be reminded later.

Re: Windows 10 Security Updates after October 10, 2025

After October 10, 2025, Microsoft will officially end extended support for Windows 10, meaning it will no longer receive free security updates or bug fixes. However, Microsoft may offer paid Extended Security Updates (ESU) for businesses and critical users, similar to what it did for Windows 7. Regular users are encouraged to upgrade to Windows 11 to ensure continued security and support.

And you're telling me this, why? And you signed up today, specifically for this reason? I know what is happening, when it is happening, why it is happening, and what the options are. Thank you.

What I object to is full screen nag screens blocking my computer when Microsoft's own software is probably able to check and confirm that my laptop is not capable of running Windows 11.

    Note:
However, Microsoft may offer paid Extended Security Updates (ESU) for businesses and critical users, similar to what it did for Windows 7.
I am not a business user, nor would I be considered critical. And, as I said, my laptops are not capable of upgrading.

Welcome to the Forum! The entire thread has been discussing this for three weeks and your post is boilerplate that only states what we already have established and looks like it came from an AI prompt. One more post like this and you'll be banned.

The message confirms that your device is not compatible. They want you to buy a new one $$$$$.

Haven't tested this, but it might be worth a shot.
