    Awarding Reputation Points

Under what circumstances can more than 1 reputation point be awarded? I have only seen the ability to award 1 point when clicking the Star. What am I missing?
<---------If you like someone's answer, click the star to the left of one of their posts to give them a reputation point for that answer.

    Re: Awarding Reputation Points

    Hi,

    only time can tell.

If you are a member for a longer period the number of points will increase (for each year of the membership).

Having a speical status may do (I´ve been told that being a Guru increases the rep-power by 1).
Other possibilities not used in this forum are the number of rep points received (per 100), the number of posts made (1,000).

    Re: Awarding Reputation Points

    Here are my observations:

As you try to give rep to the same post you get the message:
You cannot give Reputation to the same post twice.
    So probably never.
But ... if in one thread there are more posts - you can add rep for each post.
If it is the same author you cannot give more rep points one by one, but only after some time and after spreading some reputation to others - the message in this case is:
You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to here_the_nick again.
edit - OK, I can see it does not address exactly the question.

    Re: Awarding Reputation Points

HaHoBe seems to be on the track that I am looking for. I figured that it had to be something like that. I also found reference to "Reputation Power" but I can't find out anything about it. Is it hidden somewhere in User CP or is it strictly an administrative tool?

I have seen the messages about spreading reputation points around and I have also given points to more than one response to a question upon occasion.

    Re: Awarding Reputation Points

    Hi, newdoverman,

it´s a setting in the Admin Control Panel where it may be made vidsible (at least if activated you have to choice to show).

If I remember correctly you got to have 5 to 10 posts to activate the rep-power which will show 1 as long as the number of received rep-points is positive (once any user has a negative rep the rep-power should show 0).

Once a year has passed the rep-power will increase by one. In your case you joined on 02-07-2013. So the actual rep-power you have should show 2. This is only visible by Mods and Admins in this setting in your Control Center.

Sad thing (I always disliked this): you can only spend the whole number of rep-points, you may not choose to only spend a part of the number you have.

To complete the information: if you dislike a post the number of rep-points in negative is cut to half from the normal setting.

Setting in this forum is that you need to rep 1 other member before you may rep the same user again.

    Re: Awarding Reputation Points

I will stop looking for it as it was a matter of curiosity rather than being a matter for concern. It is too bad that if you have the power of more than one rep point that you can't decide how much you want to award.

Thank you very much for taking the time for the explanations.

    Re: Awarding Reputation Points

    You should be able to.

Try it and see what happens.

IMHO, you should not give rep to people that "beg" for it.

I just tried it and it worked OK for me.

I gave rep to 4 different people in a thread.

    @ pvsvprasad
I have never heard of any problems with adding Reputations.
It is good that you consider doing it to all those who have Helped you.
    _............................

This is how to Rep more than one person.

Note: You must be Logged in to Rep someone ( If you do not , then you will not see the Add Reputation or Report Post Buttons.
If you are logged in you should see those buttons at the Bottom left of all Post Windows.

_1 ) Hit Add Reputation Button

_2 ) If you wish, you may add a comment

( _3 ) Make sure that the “I approve” is checked . This is the default – so you should not need to check this )

    _ 4 ) Hit Add To Reputation

    _...

You may also Reprimand someone is you do not like what they have done for you.

But please only do this if they have been very unhelpful: Do not Reprimand someone who tried but was unable to help you. I personally would also thank and possibly Rep someone who took the time to try and help me, even if they were unable finally to help me.

    Alan

P.s. I would also be put off by people begging for a Rep. But I would fight to the death for someone to have the right to do it. , if they so wish . Free helpers have the right IMVHO to "air" their preferrences
