Insert picture next to text in Word 2013 document

I drafted a letter, and I want to insert a picture on the right side of the top of the page, aligned with the date & salutation, which are on the top left of the page.

Instead of being next to those lines, the picture consumes lines across the page so that the date starts on the line below the picture.

How do I insert the picture anywhere on the page without affecting the location of any text?

I'm using Word 2010 so this might be a bit different, but in my version, I double-click on the picture to bring up the Picture Tools-Format ribbon, then in the Arrange section I change the Position to upper left and the Wrap Text to square. At this point I can also drag the picture wherever I want it to be and the text wraps around it.
