I have a "collector" Word document that contains links from various Excel workbooks. Once I update the values in my collector document I want to save it under a different name and convert all of the links to value, because I'll be sending it to an outside entity. I've looked online and find LOTS of help in linking Excel files into Word, but NOTHING about how to then convert those links to values. I'm sure it's easy, but not knowing how definitely makes it hard for me!
Figured it out. Context is King. Not "Convert Links to Values" but "Convert Fields to Text" gave me the answer. For anyone else looking, here's the fast and easy way:

Do be aware that the Ctrl-A, Ctrl-Shift-F9 approach destroys all fields in the body of the document including, for example, a Table of Contents, hyperlinks and any cross-references. It also has no effect on fields in headers, footers, footnotes, endnotes or textboxes, each of which must be processed separately. If you want to unlink particular content, select that content, then press Ctrl-Shift-F9.

Good to know. Is there another way to convert all links to remote sources to values, without destroying the cross-references within the document?
You can go to File>Edit Links to Files (in the lower right of the screen), then choose 'Break Link' for any link you want to break. Anything fancier would require a macro.
That "for any link" is the killer. I have about 50 external links in the document, and almost that many internal links.
In that case, as I said, you could use a macro. For example:

Thanks for the macro. Althought I have a macro that will convert ALL fields to values, having this one to convert only the external links will be a big help. Thanks so much!
