Open Word without DATE field updating.

I am trying to open word document that has a "DATE" field and still retain that specific date. I know that is the incorrect field, I did not create the letters, but I also do not want to adjust the content of the letters. I've tried exporting them to PDF without opening them. Anyone have suggestions on how? Maybe I even have to adjust the date on my PC, idk.

Re: Open Word without DATE field updating.

I don't know of a way to open a Word doc using Word without a DATE field updating. However, you might be able to open it in Wordpad - I just tried creating a file with a DATE field, opened it in Wordpad and the field was replaced with today's date. You'll lose any other fields as well though.
(This may also depend on your Windows version - I'm on Windows 7 Ultimate.)

If your problem is solved, please go to 'Thread Tools' above your first post and 'Mark this Thread as Solved'.
If you use commas as your decimal separator (1,23 instead of 1.23) then please replace commas with semi-colons in your formulae.
You don't need to give me rep if I helped, but a thank-you is nice.

Re: Open Word without DATE field updating.

You could open the file and change the DATE field to a CREATEDATE field, SAVEDATE field, or PRINTDATE field. After making the change and pressing F9, the field will display the date the document was last: saved via Save As; Saved (normal); or printed (if saved afterwards), as appropriate. Any one of these might return the date you're after. Selecting the field and pressing Ctrl-Shift-F9 will unlink it so it no longer updates.

    From the Windows Secrets Forum,

    http://windowssecrets.com/forums/sho...-from-Updating

"Yet another possibility to is to select the document in File Explorer with the Preview Pane enabled and you should see a copy of the unopened document in the Preview Pane with the date as originally entered."

The original poster said this worked for them.

That'll certainly work if the file has never been re-saved on a later date, but not otherwise.
