I am unable to remove a strange symbol from the footer that looks like the English alphabet I.

That looks like a text cursor.
If its on the footer can you post a page, even if the page is blank it shouldnt matter.
Use the Go Advanced option at the bottom of the page then scroll down to Manage Attachments as the "paperclip" method does not work on this forum.

Ensure you describe your problem clearly, I have little time available to solve these problems and do not appreciate numerous changes to them.
I have attached the word file.
I think it's a cursor for text.
If you Edit the footer and start typing text appears on the left of it.
However I cant see a way to delete it.
Changing the text justification moves it.
Only appears on screen not on Print Preview.

It can't be deleted. This is a cursor which shows where text in footer will be aligned
