I previously posted a thread on this (link below) and closed it solved because from the response I understood my mistake was the text control content would no longer work if I changed the name of the file. The name of my document has remained the same but once I close and re-enter the fields no longer work. What did I misunderstand?

Well, if the content control has the 'cannot be deleted' property checked and your link was to the content control itself, that would prevent the link updating. The same applies when you bookmark one then try to cross-reference it. The link I gave you provides other means of solving the problem.
