Content control editing impossible in header afetr enforcing protection

    Hi
I have a document like the attached containing a " Rich text" content control in the header
Once I have restricted editing ( "Filling in forms" is authorized) and the protection is enforced I cannot edit the control any more.
The reminder of the document works fine, controls can be edited.
How can the control be edited?
    Thanks

Isn't it just a case of unprotecting, editing and then reprotecting, as you would in an Excel workbook? I am not really sure what the 'control' is.

    Thanks Ali
The idea is that the user fills in the controls ( fields) they are supposed to, but nothing else to preserve formatting, content, etc..
When the protection is on any field can be edited ( when correctly configured) but not in the header/footer

It's not easy to test, as I can't switch the protection off!

Open the developer tab - Click the " restrict editing" button, and in the small window that appears on the right side click " stop protection".
    There is no pwd involved
(BTA I'm working on 2010, dunno if 2019 is the same)

It won't allow me, Pepe, probably because I am not the author of the file.

Yes, I can as long as I have clicked on Enable Editing when I open the file!

    Thanks for the help.
    The attached is unprotected.
Could you possibly protect it and see if you can edit the header's field ?

I can edit the field in the body, but not the one in the header.

Once set, how does one undo the protection???

Re: Content control editing impossible in header afetr enforcing protection

There is a "stop protection" button at the bottom of the " Restrict and formatting window" that opens after clicking "Restrict editing' ( BTA on 2019 I don't know... )

    The behaviour is by design.

Instead of putting the content control in the page header, put it in the body, assign a unique Style name to it, then use a STYLEREF field in the page header to reference that Style.

Alternatively, don't use "Filling in forms" protection - use "No changes (read only)" protection with exceptions applied to the relevant portions (including in the header).

    Thanks Paul.
I don't understand it at all, but will give it a try one way or another.
As my Word version is incomplete, I'll install it again on a VM running Windows. My copy on Linux has no " Building Blocks".dotx

See attached document demonstrating both approaches.

Your lack of a Building Blocks.dotx file shouldn't have any bearing on this. Regardless, you should get that fixed.
