Table of contents that references a series of table in the document.

I have a 200 page report where a portion of the table of contents references a series of tables at the end of the document. I have added additional tables to end of this series. When I right-click "List of Tables" in the Table of Contents, then select "Update Field", then select "Update entire field", the series updates without showing the new tables at the end. How do I add the new tables to the "List of Tables". The styles associated with the tables that do show up is "Normal" and does not appear specific to the TOC. I have spent time on Youtube and Googling around, but have not found anything relevant enough to precipitate an "aha" moment. OS is Windows, Word version is 2010, or 2016 depending on the machine I am on. Thanks in advance.

Click on your Table of Contents and press Alt-F9. The displayed field code will show how the tables that do show up are referenced. Presumably, it uses TC fields for this. See:

Pressing [ALT] + [F9] with the TOC selected causes the heading for one of the original tables,

    "Table 6.–Emergency orders issued"

    to show as this,

"Table { SEQ Table \* ARABIC }.–Emergency orders issued".

Okay, going to table 7 ( a new table) I see,

    "Table 7.–Escapements relative"

replacing the "7" with "{ SEQ Table \* ARABIC }" to get,

"Table { SEQ Table \* ARABIC }.-Escapements relative".

I then go back to the TOC and find,

    "{TOC \O "1-6" \H\Z\U}" I change this to, "{TOC \O "1-7" \H\Z\U}" to increment for the added table.

I now press [ALT] + [F9] to exit, right click TOC, select "Update field", then "Update entire table" followed by [Okay].

This mostly works. TOC now shows,

    "...
    Table 6.–Emergency orders issued
    Table 6.–Escapements relative"

How do I get the second entry in the TOC to show as Table 7?
Scrolling down to the table in the report, I find Table 7.-Escapements relative is incorrectly shown as "Table 6.- Escapements relative".
Simply replacing the 6 with a 7 here loses the link. This is so close, what am I missing here? Thanks in advance.

You need to update the SEQ field also. Do Ctrl-A, F9.

Okay, doing a [Ctrl] (pause) [A], then [F9] updated the SEQ field appropriately.

There is no need for the pause. Just make sure you press the keys in the right sequence.
