    TOP secret text proportional fonts

    Hi,

part of document is top secret. Needs to be blacked out, but before that characters replaced with something like XXXXXX. The only issue is that text width in each line must be the same after replacement and fonts used are unfortunately proportional.

Any hints or ideas which way to look for a solution?

I think you have a problem to do this neatly, if monospace fonts are not used.

I know Can use VBA and I am brainstorming any idea which direction to go to...

Just came up with an idea that might work. Can read string in each line including spaces, randomly shuffle and rewrite same string. Don't know how good is this for in terms of cryptography but for my needs it might work.
Idea no 1 If anyone has any other let me know please...

You could use a macro to calculate the width of each redaction word, then replace that word with
    • an inlineshape of the same width; or
    • a string of characters (e.g. X) and adjust the character spacing to achieve the same width.

Maybe I'm being silly, but can't it be painted over for a while? I just have a document where one part should not be seen by colleagues. So I just painted that part black.

Unfortunately not enough. Text is seriously top secret and goal is to prevent copy paste from PDF if user is not careful enough to prevent this in pdf file.

The following macro redacts all yellow-highlighted content in a document, replacing the highlighted content with essentially empty black-highlighted blocks having the same print width.

It sounds like you need to redact certain sensitive information in a document by replacing the text with X's, while ensuring that the width of each line remains the same. This can be a tricky task to accomplish, especially if the fonts used in the document are proportional.

One possible solution is to use a text editor or word processor that supports a monospace font. Monospace fonts have the same width for each character, which can make it easier to ensure that the width of each line remains consistent. You can then replace the sensitive information with a string of X's that is the same length as the original text, and the width of the line should remain the same.

Did you even bother to read post #7 in this thread and try the solution posted there? It seems not.

Re: TOP secret text proportional fonts

To achieve the desired outcome, you can use a text editor or a word processor with a "find and replace" function. Follow these steps:

Open the document in the text editor or word processor.
Use the "find and replace" function to replace the text you want to hide with a series of Xs that matches the length of the original text. For example, if the original text is "confidential," replace it with "XXXXXXXXXXX".
Highlight the replaced text and change the font to a proportional font that matches the original font.
If the replaced text is not aligned with the surrounding text, add spaces between the replaced text and the surrounding text to make the line width match.
After you have completed these steps, you can use a black marker or digital tool to black out the replaced text. This will ensure that the sensitive information is hidden, while maintaining the formatting of the document.

At best, your approach is a clumsly kludge.
