Mail merge with Excel

I am trying to merge data from an Excel Spreadsheet into a word document and the the numbers do not merge properly concerning decimal placement. I have tried to copy and paste into a new sheet as values only and have tried putting in a switch in the merge fields without success. Help!

Please attach a sample of the documents you are trying to merge and I will try to help you.

I suspect that the tabs for the number fields in the Word document are not set to the decimal tab.
