    comparing 2 documents in word

    Word comparison

How to compare 2 documents with the same name without going line by line. Without using compare and merge option. is there a way to do this other then going line by line of data. I am using word 2003
Is there a way these changes can be written to another word document before merging the contents.

Although it is called compare and merge, the "Legal Blackline" option does not alter your original versions, it writes the merge to a third document.

If Word complains about them having the same name, can you not temporarily rename one for the exercise?
I count on Excel for everything
