Something terrible has happened while working with my mail-merge main documents. As I was working, I must have zigged or zagged or something because I really don't know what I did to screw things up.
I closed out, and didn't save anything, thinking I'd start fresh. I went to my directory and opened one of my report .dot's. Oh no .... it opened in the same state that I closed the corrupted document. The symptoms: 1) Despite having "View Merged Data selected on the toolbar" all my fields displayed the MERGEFIELD info. 2) I had a weird footer (one not part of my original document) with an external link to a school logo). For me to continue to work with my document, I had to toggle every merge field to get any data to be displayed. I resaved the document after I had made the repairs. It turned out that all my .dot documents suffered the same demise even though I hadn't been working on them. I repaired each one and saved them accordingly.
But still, when I open them the same things happen ... the merged fields displayed rather than the data, and the odd footer. I made some changes again, and saved as a .doc. When I reopen, although the crazy footer is gone, I still have to toggle all the merge fields to view any data.
Please help!!
