Modifying Paragraph Spacing Issue (picture)

I need to import a long list that was saved as .txt into word. In the .txt file there is no spacing between the items in the list; however, once you import it into word it automatically inserts spacing between them.

The list is over 10,000 items long so I need to be able to automatically format it.

I tried to select all of the text with ctrl-a and then use paragraph formatting with 0 before/after with single line spacing, but it does not change it.

I tried changing the style format for normal to have no space before or after, but it did not appear to correct it. Did I do something incorrectly? Please see image attached.

Make sure where you paste it is formatted as Normal. With the cursor at the soon-to-be insertion point, do Ctrl+Shift+N.
