Make a change in one style to effect others. (Overwriting problem?) (Link styles?)

    Hi guys,

I am playing with MS Word Styles.

When I change the default FONT type from Times New Roman, to MS Gothic. some of the styles remain the same Heading 1: FONT (Default) + Headings (Calibri Light).

The same issue occurs with Style "Subtitle" FONT (Default) + Body(Calibri)

    See the photos below

Default Font is Time New Roman.png

    Default Font is MS Gothic.png

Similarly the defaults for "Intense Quote" and "Normal"

Style "Intense Quote" before: 18 points
    Style "Normal" before: 12 points,

If I change the default Paragraph before: 0 points, then Style "Normal" before: 0 points, but Style "Intense Quote" stays as before: 18 points.

    What am I doing wrong?

How do I make Heading 1 Font (Default)?
And how do I make "Intense Quote" use the same spacing as Style "Normal"?

    Thanks all,

    Jimmy

Whether a change to one Style affects another depends on the inheritance relationships between them. At the outset, a Style can inherit all of the properties of another Style it's based on. However, as soon as you give any of the attributes in the new Style a different definition than its parent has, it no longer inherits any changes to that attribute from the parent. So, since you started out with:
    "Intense Quote" before: 18 points
    "Normal" before: 12 points
no changes to the "Normal" before setting will affect the "Intense Quote" before setting.
