I want to get all the Item A overall costs in 2012 (check the following example - individual costs are always different). How shall i proceed? vlookup/lookup? Can you please give me a hand?
Year Item Cost
2012 A 5
2012 A 4
2012 B 10
2012 A 7
2012 B 4
2013 A 3
2013 B 12
2014 A 7

.You need an array formula to do this. This must be confirmed by pressing CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER to activate the array, not just ENTER. You will know the array is active when you see curly braces { } appear around your formula. If you do not CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER you will get an error or a clearly incorrect answer. Press F2 on that cell and try again.
