    Lookup issue.

Hello everyone. I thank you in advance for your help.

I have attached a zip sheet with the example of the issue I'm having.

I'm trying to perform a lookup. The formula is listed below:

    PHP Code:
    =vlookup(F2,$B$1:$D$8,3
I want to return the % from column D into cell F3 depending on the value in F3. What am I doing wrong? I'm looking on the forums right now trying to find the piece of the puzzle I'm missing. Any thoughts are most welcome.

    Thanks

    Eddie

Column B should be in Ascending order.... so try rearranging your table.
Where there is a will there are many ways.

That was so easy it wasn't even fair.

Why does that make any difference? I sorted it that way and now it works. Thank you so much. But why does it matter if is sorted ascending?

Thank you again so much for your quick reply.

    Eddie.

That is the way the Vlookup (and other Lookup functions) are designed.

See help on Vlookup, Lookup, Match, etc... they all have that setup.

Note: If you were looking for exact matches, then you wouldn't need the data to be in ascending order, but you would need to indicate so by using the FALSE identifier as the last argument in the function
