Solver

Hello,

For an assignment I have to make use of the solver tool to determine an optimal assignment of the different suppliers.

I have to buy 6282 parts. HZGV437 is the cheapest part and the other 2 can replace this part but are more expensive. Furthermore I can buy the parts at three suppliers who all have different capacity for each part. Main goal is to buy 6282 parts with the lowest total costs. I already made the cells green where solver can fill in the purchased part so the total costs will be calculated down below. I tried several things but I cant get it solved..

I hope u guys can help me.
Thanks in advance.

Kind regards,
Thijs

Since this sounds like homework (not that it makes that much difference), I will make a few suggestions, but leave the actual work to you.

I tried several things but I cant get it solved..
Sometimes it is nice to describe what you have tried, what results these attempts gave, and why they are wrong. This gives us some insights into your thought process, and where you are right and where you may be going wrong.

The first question I usually tackle with a question like this is "what is my objective function?" The objective function is the function that I want to maximize, minimize, or find the root of. This is also the cell that will go into the "set target cell" field in the Solver dialog. What have you tried as your objective function?

Re: Solver

Looking at your uploaded file I see that the number of parts is also defined as “objective” but this should defined as a constraint. Your objective is the “minimum cost”

Constraints comes in a number of “flavours”

Equal to
Equal to or less than
Equal to or greater than

Constraints can also be set as integers used for instance when selling or buying units or as binaries in selecting “Yes” or “No” where the value 1 is “Yes” and 0 is “No”

Please take a moment to read the forum rules and then amend your thread title to something descriptive of your problem (think google search terms?). Once you have done this please send me a PM and I will remove this request. (Also, include a link to your thread - copy from the address bar)

Many members search our previous posts, and thread titles play a big part of the search. I doubt anybody would do a search based on your title?

To change a Title on your post, click EDIT POST then Go Advanced and change your title, if 2 days have passed ask a moderator to do it for you.
1. Use code tags for VBA.
Your Code
(or use the # button)
2. If your question is resolved, mark it SOLVED using the thread tools
3. Click on the star if you think someone helped you
