text find

I have records that have a name field, in which there is a first and last name. I wish to separate the first from the last by searching for a space in the record and then using the Left() and Right() functions. How can I search for a space within a text string found in a field of a record? In MS Excel there is the Find() function, but I cannot locate any similar function in Access.
