I work in accounting and dream of building a proprietary relational database software that I can package into an installer (for windows) and sell to the public. I have decent Excel & HTML skills but absolutely no experience coding databases or using MSQL.

I’m toying with the idea of learning how to build this accounting software myself over time but have some very basic questions I hope someone here may be able to help answer.

1. Is SQL a good relational database structure for accounting software where a lot of calculations are needed?

2. How would I create a front end user experience to execute the SQL code? Example…when I enter someone’s name in a field, it updates the “PEOPLE” table.

3. How do I link something like crystal reports to the database?

4. Once I have a product with a front end interface, how do I package it into an installer?

Again, I’m looking for very basic info right now so I apologize if I’m over simplifying things. Like I said, I have no experience coding databases.

Thanks,
Steve
