    Formating Data Labels

    Hi,

This chart is a breakdown of mining company: each column is a company and each small component of the column is a mine. Right now, I have the value of each mine for each company, but instead I would like to get the name of the mine in the data label not its value.

Is there any way to get the name of the mine in the data label and not the value?
(the problem being that the name of the mine is not the category name nor the serie name)

Feel free to have a look: Copy of Benchmarking African Assets.xlsx

    Thank you very much,
    Julien

    Re: Formating Data Labels

I have been working on something similar, I added a third column for Mine 2, 3 and 4 so I could get the cumulative value of the prior mines. Then I right clicked on the chart and clicked on select data --> and clicked on Add (under Legend Entries (Series)) on the left. You name the series, select your Mine Names, then your Cumulative values for label positioning. generating a formula like this: =SERIES("Mine Names 2",'M&I'!$F$4:$F$18,'M&I'!$H$4:$H$18,5)
Where F are the mine names, and H the cumulative values, and 5 the 5th series. I then formated the series and put it on the secondary axis and changed the chart type to XY Scatter. I added Data labels, and formated the data labels to show category instead of value, that got the names on the graph at the right heights, then I centered the label and put it below the value.

I repeated this for mine 3 and 4. The whole thing gets a little crowded but I will leave that to you...

    Cheers

    Re: Formating Data Labels

Oops forgot one thing, I right clicked on the secondary Axis and formated the axis forcing the max value to be the same as the primary axis. otherwise the labels won't line up with the primary axis. When you are done you can right click on the secondary axis and delete it from view...
