    Help with Pivot Table Please!!

    Hi,

I have created a pivot table that does 90% of what I want it to do... but need help with the end.

Currently, I have types of inventory (text) as my row labels, and dates as my column labels.
It then sums the inventory i will receive by date.

How can i get the row labels to be in the same order as the dates?
I would like the inventory text that is coming to the first date, to be on the first row.

Sorry if I did not explain myself well!

    THANK YOU!
    -S

    Hi,

I have posted the file here.

Please let me know if you can help me arrange the rows by the date column.
Thus, the row with the earliest date would appear first.
If there are multiple rows with the same date, it would be in alphabetical order? (That's not as big of a deal).

    Thank you!

I'm not sure what you mean by sort the Rows by the Date Column?

The Dates in the Column area of the Pivot are displaying in date order, then the 'Sum SKU' in the Columns area of the Pivot sum the SKU for those dates.

Can you illustrate a mockup of the Before & After?

    Thanks

    Hi,

I created a mock Sheet on the workbook called "Ideal Table".

The change is very small. I want to keep the columns in date order as they are...
But it would be VERY nice to have the rows "in order" of which date comes first...

Please compare the difference of the two tabs, and it should make sense.

Thank you for all of your help!!!

Is there any way to do this? Or is it pretty hopeless...

    Hi Sajo90,

I've had a look at the file & I don't know of a way to get a Pivot table to do this each time it is refreshed.

Can I ask why you want it this way?

    Cheers

    Thanks for looking at it!

I thought everything was possible somehow in Excel...

The rows are "inventory", and it would be a helpful summary if you could quickly glance at the inventory in the order we are going to receive it, instead of in alphabetical order which means nothing!

Re: Help with Pivot Table Please!!

The other way would be to write a Macro to run each time data is added to sort it as you like.

So there would be no Pivot involved.

The limitation to your first solution is what a Pivot would normally do & as far as I know, you can't get a Pivot to sort as you like every time - unless there was a Macro to adjust the Pivot - so you might as well just use a Macro on the source data.

So there are very few things you can't do in Excel if you use VBA to manipulate data beyond the normal limits of Excel.

Create an extra column in your data, call it date2. Put the formula =d2 in it and drag down. Refresh pivot table. Then use the extra column you have created as a row label to sort your data.

To tidy up, you could then go Design tab > Report Layout > tabular form. Right click to take subtotals off. then hide the date column
