Custom number formats in a charts y-axis

I have a table with numbers in column A, Custom format code in cell B2 and results in column C.
When I try to use the same Custom format code on the y-axis in a chart, I can not get the same result on the chart as in column C.
I am using excel 2013 European style.

    Hope someone can help.

    See attached example file.

The custom format code misbehaviour on the y-axis still persist though.

    Available number format codes: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/ex...372.aspx?CTT=1

I'm kind of surprised that the format code works in the spreadsheet (maybe has to do with the regional decimal and thousands separator characters setting). I would expect a format code of "0.0,,\M" would work in both the spreadsheet and for the chart axis.

    Thanks for Your reply Shorty

The thing is that it is difficult to accept that this works differently in spreadsheets and Charts.
No matter what region settings are applicable, it should be consitency between the format codes in the sheets and the charts.
I wonder if this is a bug?
I guess there is consistency between userdefined number format codes in the sheets and the charts in the US version?
    Can you confirm?

Re: Custom number formats in a charts y-axis

I do not know what I can confirm. My observations:

Upon downloading and opening your spreadsheet, column C is showing what I guess is your desired format 124.4M. However if I make any change that forces these cells to recalculate (If I change A15, or change A2. even going into B2 and pressing F2 enter), the format changes to 124,256,789 M -- the same format as the chart axis seems to be using. I have not found a way (not even ctrl-Z undo) to get back to the format displayed on opening. To get back to the format displayed on opening, I have to use the format code I proposed "0.0,, \M".

Perhaps others can confirm either my observations or yours to help track this down.

If it matters, I'm using Excel 2007.

Re: Custom number formats in a charts y-axis

I can confirm your observations in excel 2007: re-committing any value in column C or the format in cell B2 causes the numbers in column C to change to, for example: 124,356,789 M

Re: Custom number formats in a charts y-axis

I use format code 0,0 \M both in the excel sheet and in the chart y-axis formatting, but it's only in the excel sheet I get the desired result. Do you get the same result in the sheet and in the y-axis when you use 0.0,,\M directly in your y-axis custom formatting?

Yes, that format code yields the same format 124.4 M in the sheet, 140.0 M for the chart axis.
