Add "pop-up" text box to Bar Chart

Hi there, I'd like to have additional information pop up when hovering the mouse pointer over a section of bar chart.

Specifically I'm trying to display the amount of resources required per month for a project. When hovering over a particular bar I'd like for the specific tasks relating to that resource to appear.

Currently I've created a Pivot Chart and cant seem to find any way of doing this, would I be better with a normal (non Pivot) bar chart? Happy to use VBA if necessary. I'm using Excel 2010

    Thanks, Bobby.

    Hi Bobby,

Would a Gantt chart like you see attached work for you?

    1) Create Stacked Bar Chart
    2) Move Hours Series to 2nd Axis
    3) Change Maximum Bound of Second Horizontal Axis to a very Small Number like .0001
    4) Change to Secondary Axis to No Labels
    5) Change Hours Series to No Fill
    6) Change Start date Series to No Fill

    Let me know.

Thanks Steve, I've actually decided to go down the PowerPoint route where I can easily add "invisible" buttons that link to the additional information behind each bar within the chart (I'm happpy with the chart itself, just that I need there to be a way of drilling down into the information).

Currently waiting to go theough this method with my boss, I may be back!!!

    Thanks again.

    Thanks for the update.

Just realizing that when I opened up the file again that Excel moves the hours bars in front. So if you go this route, you will want to redo one step from my notes above:

    5) Change Hour Series to Solid Fill and 99% Transparency.

This will keep it in front after you close and reopen the file.

    Good Luck.
