Plotting Orginal Values with Linest forumula Values

    Hi all,

    I have a dataset with 6 independent values colums(X) and 1 dependent value column(y)

I have used this in a Linest function, but how can i plot my results from my Linest function with the orginal Y values?

Due this i can see how accurate Linest was.

Attach a sample workbook. Make sure there is just enough data to demonstrate your need. Include a BEFORE sheet and an AFTER sheet in the workbook if needed to show the process you're trying to complete or automate. Make sure your desired results are shown, mock them up manually if necessary.

    Remember to desensitize the data.

Re: Plotting Orginal Values with Linest forumula Values

If I understand what you have here, it looks like you have 7 dimensions worth of data (6 X variables and 1 Y variable). Charting 7D on a 2D screen or paper is always a challenge. Nothing comes immediately to mind for plotting 7D on a 2D space.

If the goal is to get a measure of "goodness of fit", I might stick to strictly numerical means. I don't know how you prefer to measure "goodness of fit". If you expand the LINEST() output (4th argument TRUE), LINEST() will output an r^2 value, which is a common measure of goodness of fit. I tend to use something more like a root mean square error, which doesn't have a built in Excel function but can easily be calculated.

In just about any case, I would suggest adding a column that computes y(equation) from the given LINEST() output. If the formula needed to compute y(equation) for each point is not obvious to you, let us know, and we can help you put that one together.

If you compute y(equation) and the difference (or per cent difference) between y(measured) and y(equation), then you can plot a simple "deviation plot". Select your "deviation" column and y(meas) column, then insert a scatter chart. A deviation plot can be a quick and easy way to visualize goodness of fit.

I hope some of that helps.
