Comparing 2 years of data on agreement scale

I am having some trouble comparing 2014 and 2015 data on an agreement scale. Below is an example of data I'm trying to compare:

My coworkers respect me? Strongly Agree, Agree, Disagree, Strongly Disagree, N/A
My department works well as a team? Strongly Agree, Agree, Disagree, Strongly Disagree, N/A
My manager communicates well with our team? Strongly Agree, Agree, Disagree, Strongly Disagree, N/A

I need to compare this data for 2014 and 2015. How can I set the table up to accurately compare this data?

How much of this is an Excel question and how much of this is a statistics question?

If this is a statistics question, I'm not sure I am enough of a statistician to make a good recommendation. This has the feel of a "multinomial" experiment to me. I'm not sure what kind of comparison between the two years you are looking for. Perhaps the first comparison might be "are the data different between the two years." From what little I understand, this sort of thing is frequently tested using a chi-square test. I cannot give you a suitable tutorial here, so I will defer to stattrek: http://stattrek.com/chi-square-test/...?Tutorial=Stat Review their discussion and their example TV viewing data and see if this looks like the kind of test you are looking for.

If this is the correct kind of comparison, then we can talk about the Excel formulas and functions that will be used to perform a chi-square test. If this is not correct, then explain to use the desired test/comparison you want to make, and we should be able to help you program that test into Excel.

    Hello,

can you post a sample file that shows how the responses to the survey are stored? Please mask any confidential information like names.

There are many ways to store survey data like this, so it would really help to see YOUR data as a sample file.

If the survey results are in a table with columns for

    Date | Name | question | answer |

then you can build a pivot table to aggregate your data by year and build charts to compare performance in different years.

But precise steps can only be supplied if we know more details about your data structure.

    cheers, teylyn
