Basic GetPivotData help - Exel for Mac 2011

I am literally just learning how to use pivot tables, so please excuse the remedial nature of this. I am using Excel for Mac 2011, so auto-generate GetPivotData is not an option. I'm having 3 issues:

    1) Most basic, how to use the GetPivotData function to retrieve data from my pivot table. I know the basic syntax, but haven't been able to get it to work. (see attached file)

    2) This follows #1. When using the formula builder to populate the GetPivotData function, how do I reference fields and items in the pivot table? When I select a cell in the table, it seems to reference it as a static cell rather than a pivot table label. For example, even selecting the pivot table name, it seems as though I should be able to simply click on the upper left corner of the table rather than trying to remember exactly what I had named it.

    3) Is it possible to configure the source data to automatically expand as new rows of data are added, or do I need to manually select the new source data and then update the pivot table?

I really appreciate any help and apologize for the basic nature of this request. I've spent 2 days researching this on-line and still can't figure it out. I think once I have a working example I'll be ok.

    Thanks all!

I have the same problem. Has office 365 for Mac corrected this problem?

What problem are you referring to?

FWIW, the formula for the OP's pivot table would be:

    =GETPIVOTDATA(""&E14,'Pivot Table'!$A$3,"code",D$10)

The auto generate function. I have Excel 2013 for windows on my work computer and when i link into a pivot table the getpivotdata function is automatically active and i am able to reference a particular cell even when the pivot table changes when refreshed. On my Mac the excel 2011 does not have the function - and i am not computer literate enough to type out a full formulae each time. I use pivot tables extensively and the function is almost mandatory.
