Pivot-table changing with changes to pivot chart

I'm a newbie to this site but have been using excel for many years. I have a question regarding pivot charts and tables.

I'm wondering if there is a way to have the chart work independently from the pivot table. My pivot table is designed/layed-out in a certain way but the moment I make changes to the pivot chart by switching row/column the pivot-table layout also changes.

Is there a way to disconnect the two but still have the pivot-chart read the data off the pivot-table?

Any help would be appreciated.

As per my knowledge, I guess no, If you using Pivot table, then if you make any changes the same will get reflected in the Pivot table.

Hello,

I'm not quite sure I understand what you want to achieve.

A pivot chart plots the data from the underlying pivot table. These two are linked and any change in one will affect the other.

You may want to create a separate pivot table or pivot chart to act independent of the first one.

Hi KackSmith,

You can click in your data set and go to Insert > Pivot Table drop down > Pivot Chart > OK.

You can then create your Pivot chart by putting the Fields in the Fields areas.

The Pivot Table will still be connected to your Pivot Chart buts its another way of creating a Pivot Charts.
