Question Issue with updating stacked bar with date

    Hi!

I have a stacked bar chart with time and duration in excel 2013 (i'm trying to show 30 day milestones). I had no problem the 1st time I created the file.

Now that I need to update the dates (to have my new future 30 day milestones) the chart does not update correctly: it extends the x-axis in the future but also in the past:

currently the file is from 7/15 to 8/15, when I put dates from 8/12 to 9/12, it extends the file from 5/26 to 9/23.
File is attached, thank you so much for your help

I notice that the "axis minimum" for the horizontal axis is set to automatic. So, when you add more dates, or get a different date range, Excel will "choose" the axis min and max based on its built in, default algorithm. If you want something other than the default min and max values, you will need to go into the "format axis" dialog and tell Excel what you want to use for the axis min and/or max.

Thank you for taking the time to look at my file. The issue is that I'm trying to hand out the file to my client and if I set a minimum then the client will need to update it every month. I was trying to have something as automatic as possible, where he only needs to input its start date and duration.

Unfortunately, Excel's axis formatting dialog does not accept any kind of formula for the axis limits -- only number constants.

If you cannot trust your clients to be able to enter a suitable date/value into the axis minimum field, and you cannot trust Excel's "auto" algorithm to choose suitable axis minima/maxima, then you need to include some VBA code into the file that will determine the desired axis minimum value and enter that into the .minimumscale and/or .maximumscale properties of the desired axis. Do you have any VBA coding experience, or would this be your first attempt?
